Erich is our head roaster; he’s efficient, hardworking and has been in the specialty coffee industry since 1998. We recently caught up with Erich while he was roasting. Here’s some trivia that may come in quite handy to you someday—or not.

He’s moved over 40 times in the past 30 years.

He’s the youngest of three kids and has great respect for how his parents raised them to take pride in your work and always do a good job.

Pet peeve? People who are sure they know they’re right—about everything. Every. Last. Thing.

He’s proud to be part of the Novo family because it’s a company that cares about the quality of its product and connects to the farmers who grow its coffees in an authentic manner that is about more than just shiny marketing.

Erich picks out “quakers” (coffee beans that did not receive proper nutrition when they were cherries on the coffee tree) by hand from each batch of roasted coffee.

The wildest thing he’s done in life so far is marry a woman after only knowing her for three months (they met in the coffee shop where he was working). Yes, they’re still married, and yes, she’s awesome.
