Mundani
Origin Cacahuatique mountain range, El Salvador
Varietal Pacamara
Processing type Washed
Nuances A complex but well-balanced cup – jasmine and citrus on the nose, silky body, notes of carob and melon, very smooth and sweet finish
This is a new and very promising relationship for Novo. Luis Araujo’s coffee is some of the best in El Salvador – the Mundani is the first of many coffees from this farm that Novo will purchase for hopefully many years to come. The farm is located in the Cacahuatique mountain range near Ciudad Barrios and is surrounded by dense forest with abundant wildlife such as deer, lion monkeys and tepezcuintles (pacas). The Araujo Guerra family has been producing coffee for more than a century, but production took an obvious hit in the 1980’s during the war in El Salvador and the resulting social and economic problems. The family started to rebuild its land and farm in the 1990’s and was the first to introduce Pacamara coffee to El Salvador (since then the Pacamara variety of coffee has been spread to farms throughout El Salvador and Central America. Novo will be visiting this farm in December 2010 and again in the spring of 2011.

Ojo de Agua
Origin Volcan, Panama
Varietal Caturra, typica
Processing type Washed
Nuances Full body, orange peel citrus, tangy acidity, slightly nutty
Another great coffee from the Hartmann family farm in Volcan, Panama, where currently 3 generations are represented. This is the fifth year that Novo has been purchasing coffee directly from the Hartmanns, with surely many more years to come. In addition to a passion for working in balance with the ecosystems within and surrounding their farm, they also produce exceptional coffees year in and year out - including this year's Ojo de Agua!
